Investigators looking into the cyber attack on Glasgow City Council said there is no evidence of data having been stolen or encrypted.

The cyber attack was first detected in the early hours of June 19 when the council were alerted by a third-party supplier to malicious activity on their servers.

However, subsequent independent forensic analysis has found no evidence of data being stolen, and the local authority says it has “high confidence” that the incident was contained.

The investigation did find evidence that attempts were made to download data, but these were all denied.

Due to the affected servers being deliberately taken offline, a number of services were unavailable for a short time as the council proceeded “on the basis that data was likely to have been lost.”

Glasgow City Council said that “many of the highest priority services are now back online, with temporary workarounds in place for others”.

Work to recover online services is underway and will continue, in some cases, into August.
