Fugitive who fled to Scotland found guilty of second rape

Nicholas Rossi was convicted of raping a 21-year-old woman in Orem, Utah, in September 2008.

An American man who faked his death and fled to Scotland has been found guilty of a second rape.

Nicholas Rossi was convicted of raping a 21-year-old woman in Orem, Utah, in September 2008.

The pair had dated for a short period before breaking up. After splitting up, the woman visited Rossi’s flat to ask for money he owed her.

Rossi didn’t have the money and prevented his ex-girlfriend from leaving. He went on to rape her in the property.

The investigation was initially dismissed, however, the rape kit was eventually retested in 2018 following backlog, identifying Rossi as the assailant.

A warrant was issued for his arrest, however, Rossi had faked his death and fled to the UK in 2017.

Police located Nicholas Alahverdian in Bristol in 2020, where he was calling himself Arthur Knight and he was later arrested in Glasgow hospital.

He was eventually extradited to the US in January 2024 after a lengthy case in Scottish courts.

Following a five day trial in the city of Provo a jury convicted him of raping his former girlfriend.

The verdict comes six weeks after Rossi was convicted of raping a woman he was engaged to in November 2008 in Salt Lake City.
