New smart ZoneCard linking up Subway, train and bus services in Glasgow to be introduced

A new integrated ZoneCard is set to launch in Glasgow offering public transport users the opportunity to use Subway, rail and bus services all on one card.

Launching on Monday, the new smartcard ZoneCard aims to make travel ‘even simpler’ by introducing seven zones and a range of flexible ticket options online.

From July 8, ZoneCard smart tickets will be available for purchase from any PayZone outlet across the ZoneCard network.

Under the new terms, Glasgow city centre will be split into two zones, G1 for the north, covering Hyndland to Alexandra Parade, and G2 for the south, stretching from Govan to Rutherglen and Cathcart. Both zones will cover the Subway.

A weekly ticket for two zones will cost £20.90, increasing in price with the addition of each extra zone. A ZoneCard covering all zones will cost £75.10 per week.

Customers will be able to chose from one day tickets to annual passes, as well as flexi ticket options for those travelling any three days in seven, or any ten days in 28.

All previous ZoneCard restrictions on when tickets can start and finish will also be removed.

ZoneCard forum chair Ryan Sorley, who is also commercial development manager for First Bus Scotland, said: “ZoneCard has been an essential ticket for many customers using bus, rail and Subway over the years.

“Working together with SPT, the ZoneCard operators are delighted to launch this modernised ZoneCard offer, making full use of smart ticketing technology to provide convenience and flexibility for customers.

“One ticket on one smartcard to travel on bus, rail and Subway – it couldn’t be easier.”

As ZoneCards will be moved to a smart ticketing option, customers will be offered more security if they lose their smartcard, meaning cancellations and replacements will be made easier.

ZoneCards can be added to existing ScotRail, Subway, McGill’s and Stagecoach smartcards, and the National Entitlement Card.

A distinctive new ZoneCard branded smartcard will also be available.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.zonecard.co.uk and loaded onto your chosen smartcard using the Apple or Android app or you can simply load the ticket when travelling via your bus, train, or Subway station.
