An international health insurance firm has said almost 200 call centre jobs are at risk across Glasgow and Inverclyde.
Cigna International Health said that changes to how they “work and serve customers” will affect approximately 193 roles.
The firm said the move has been driven by “changing customer needs”.
The planned cuts will affect sites in Glasgow and its local base at Greenock’s Knowe Road.

A Cigna spokesperson said: “We can confirm that Cigna International Health is making changes over the next 18 months to how we work and serve customers, driven by changing customer needs.
“This will affect approximately 193 roles across our Greenock and Glasgow sites, subject to a formal collective consultation.
“Our Greenock and Glasgow sites remain important centres for Cigna International Health. Both will continue to serve our customers, clients and partners in the region and globally.
“They are integral to serving our global network of over 1.7m customers in more than 30 markets.
“We recognise this will be a difficult time for colleagues and are committed to supporting everyone affected throughout the process.”
‘Disappointing’
Following the news, Greenock’s recently re-elected MSP Stuart McMillan hit out at plans to cut jobs in the area.
He said: “First and foremost, when news like this breaks, my thoughts are with the workforce, who will no doubt be feeling incredibly worried at present. Several people have already contacted me to make their feelings known. Cutting jobs in Greenock and Glasgow, reportedly to move them overseas, will not be welcomed by the workforce or by local communities.”
He added he had attempted to speak to representatives from Cigna, but had been unable to do so.
McMillian added he had recieved a “disappointing email”, which said the company is not planning any external meetings.
He continued: “As the local MSP, I would have hoped for a more proactive response, and I will continue to press for a meeting at the earliest opportunity.
“I want to understand the full implications of this announcement for my constituents, what support package will be put in place, the long-term future of the business locally, and what assistance Cigna is seeking for the local site.
“I would urge anyone impacted to contact my office.”
