The death of a man whose body was found in a car parked in a lay-by on the A77 is being treated as unexplained by police.
The 46-year-old’s body was found in a blue Ford Fiesta with the registration LA56 HZN on the road’s northbound carriageway near Dalmilling Golf Course, Ayr.
Police were alerted at around 6pm on Saturday and officers said inquiries have revealed the car was seen parked at about 7am that same day but was not there at 7pm the previous night.
Detective inspector Nathan Calderwood, of Ayrshire CID, said: “We are working to establish the full circumstances which led to this incident and would appeal to anyone who noticed the vehicle at any time prior to 7am on Saturday to let us know.
“I would ask anyone who was on the road overnight between Friday and Saturday and may have dashcam footage to review this and pass on anything which may be of use.
“Anyone who may have seen the vehicle or who has any other information can contact police.
“The man’s death continues to be treated as unexplained and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
