A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a man who was found seriously injured on the street in Port Glasgow.

On Monday, officers confirmed the victim was 27-year-old Jack Trainner.

Mr Trainner was pronounced dead at the scene after being found seriously injured on Brookfield Road around 9pm on Saturday.

Police have launched an “extensive” investigation to establish what happened to Mr Trainner and added that there will be an “increased police presence” in the area.

The force are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward.

Detective chief inspector Graham McCreadie, from the Major Investigation Teams, said: “Jack’s family and friends will continue to be supported throughout our enquiries.

“It’s vital we find out exactly what happened to him and I’m appealing to the public for help to do that.

“If you have any information that may assist officers with their enquiries, then please get in touch as soon as you can.

“We would also like to view any private CCTV or dashcam footage from the area and between 6pm and 11pm Saturday.

“You can also contact 101, quoting reference number 3680 of Saturday, April 27, 2024. Information can be shared anonymously with the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

A Major Incident Public Portal (MIPP) has been set up to enable the public to submit information directly to the inquiry team.
