Jurors have been shown the movements of two teenagers on the day they allegedly murdered a 15-year-old boy.

The pair, aged 17 and 16, are stated to have assaulted Amen Teklay in the St George’s Cross area of Glasgow on March 5, 2025.

Prosecutors claim the boys – who cannot be identified due to their age – brandished a sword and a frying pan at Amen while both masked.

It is said that Amen, who lived in the city with his father, but was originally from Eritrea, was chased.

The charge states that he was struck with the sword and left so severely hurt that he passed away on the city’s Clarendon Street.

Jurors were taken through a number of CCTV clips, which started with the 16-year-old’s actions on the day of the alleged murder.

This included him at the foyer of the block of flats where he lived after 7.30pm.

When asked to describe the clip, a detective sergeant told prosecutor Adrian Stalker: “He takes an electric scooter downstairs and puts it against the [entrance] door.

“He bends down to the post boxes, and we see an action at his right side.”

In later footage at the Firhill Complex in the city’s Maryhill, the 16-year-old was identified as one of six youths seen in the images.

At around 10.15pm, the 16 and 17-year-olds on trial were identified as being together outside GA Mann garage in Maryhill.

The 16-year-old was stated to be on an electric scooter at the time.

Two minutes later, footage from the same area showed who the DS identified as the 17-year-old “running” from the direction of Clarendon Street towards St George’s Road.

The 17-year-old appeared to have something “glowing” on his person.

The DS added: “We can see a movement, his hand goes up and appears to throw something over the wall.”

The 16-year-old then appears to come into view on an e-scooter going in the same direction as the 17-year-old.

In later footage from the same area, the witness told jurors that the 16-year-old was in shorts – having been seen in earlier clips in light-coloured trousers.

He is then seen in other footage from the area without the scooter and “slowed down a bit” near the wall.

The 17-year-old was then picked up by bus footage of him entering a double-decker from St George’s Road to the Gallowgate area of the city.

Meantime, an ambulance was seen in other footage heading in the direction from which both teens had come.

The 16-year-old was seen on CCTV entering the foyer of his flat at 10.37pm. Footage shortly after showed the boy running back out the door with his barefooted father behind him.

Jurors had previously watched footage of three other incidents between the 16-year-old and Amen, starting from February 2025.

Brian McConnachie KC, defending the 16-year-old, put it to the DS: “If there was an incident before February 12, 2025, this isn’t something you have CCTV footage of?”

The witness replied: “Yes.”

In footage where the 16-year-old appears to run from Teklay during one of the other incidents, Mr McConnachie asked: “We have the phrase ‘run for your life’, does that feature?”

The DS said: “Yes, it could be. He is running at speed.”

Mr McConnachie said: “He is running clearly knowing what is behind him?”

The DS replied: “Yes.”

The 16-year-old accused also faces an allegation of attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

A special defence of self-defence has been lodged by the 16-year-old boy.

The trial continues tomorrow before Judge Lord Colbeck.
