A police incident has closed the busy M8 in Glasgow to Westbound traffic.

The incident took place on Sunday shortly after 2pm in the afternoon.

Lanes one and two, of the total four lanes, were blocked as a result.

Traffic Scotland stated that Westbound will be closed after J22 due to the ongoing incident at J23.

There is heavy congestion on the road, with delays of around 45 minutes expected.

Drivers have been urged to consider using an alternative route and to allow extra time for their journey.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Emergency services are currently in attendance at an incident on the M8 near to Junction 23 westbound, Govan, Glasgow, to which police were called around 2.05pm today, Sunday, 9 January, 2022.  No further details at this time.

“The M8 westbound is closed prior to Junction 23 and traffic is being diverted via at the M8/M77 junction. Local diversions are in place.”
