Multiple cars damaged on motorway after debris falls from bridge

Around five cars were left damaged after debris fell from a bridge on the M74, near Lasmahagow, on Thursday afternoon.

The M74 was forced to partially close after debris fell from a bridge and damaged multiple vehicles.

Police were called to reports of debris falling on the motorway, between Junction 10 and Junction 12 near Lesmahagow, at around 1.10pm on Thursday.

The Northbound lane of the road was subsequently shut for over 10 hours to allow for bridge inspection and emergency repairs.

A total of five vehicles were damaged due to the debris, police confirmed.

There were no reported injuries.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 1.10pm to a report of debris on the M74 near Junction 10.

“Five vehicles were damaged due to the debris however there are no reported injuries. Recovery has taken place.”
