Family pay tribute to 'proud' motorcyclist who died in crash with car

A ‘proud’ motorcyclist who died following a collision with a car on the M74 has been named.

James Martin, from Linwood in Renfrewshire, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash that took place near Abington in South Lanarkshire on Friday, September 27.

Emergency services attended after Mr Martin’s black Harley Davidson collided with a blue Ford Focus car near Junction 13 at around 6.40pm.

The 45-year-old’s family paid tribute in a statement released through Police Scotland on Saturday.

It said: “We would like to thank Lanarkshire Road Policing and everyone who stopped to help and all other emergency services who attended.

“James was a proud motorcyclist and will be missed by everyone who knew him.”

Sergeant Andrew Coutts said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Mr Martin. His family has asked for their privacy to be respected at what is a very difficult time for them.”

The driver of the Focus was not injured.
