A motorcyclist was taken to hospital with serious injuries after crashing off the road near Glasgow Airport.

Emergency services were alerted to the scene on Barnsford Road in Inchinnan around 8.35am on Tuesday.

A black Yamaha motorcycle was travelling north on the A726 between St James Interchange and Walkinshaw Road when it left the road and collided with perimeter fencing at the airport.

The 34-year-old male biker was taken by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where staff have described his condition as serious but stable.

The road was closed in both directions to allow officers to carry out their enquiries, later reopening around 12.55pm.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, Police Scotland added.

Road policing sergeant Ryan McAuley said: “I am keen to hear from anyone who was in the area who saw what happened but who has not yet been spoken to by police.

“If anyone has dash-cam footage that they believe may assist our enquiry, I would urge them to get in touch with police via 101. Please quote reference number 0535 of Tuesday, July 5 when calling.”
