Motorcyclist dies in crash as road closed overnight

The 34-year-old male rider of a blue Yamaha YZF-R6 motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene.

A motorcyclist has died following a single-vehicle crash on the A76 in East Ayrshire.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash at around 6.55pm on Monday, May 20 on the major road between Kilmarnock and Mauchline.

The 34-year-old male rider of a blue Yamaha YZF-R6 motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed in both directions while investigations into the crash took place and before reopening around 2.45am on Tuesday.

Sergeant Martin Cunningham of Irvine Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who has died and our enquiries into the circumstances of what happened are ongoing.

“I am appealing to anyone who saw what happened and anyone driving in the area who has dash-cam footage that could assist with our investigation to please get in touch.”

Anyone who can assist is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1488 of Monday, May 20, 2024.
