A man has been airlifted to hospital following a motorbike crash in Irvine.

The 28-year-old rider collided with crash barriers near the Eglington Interchange roundabout on Monday evening.

The incident occurred around 6.20pm on the slip road of the B7080 towards Long Drive.

Police confirmed he was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow by air ambulance where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Witnesses are being asked to come forward after the motorcyclist left the road for an unknown reason resulting in the crash.

Officers are looking to speak with the driver of a blue car who may have been the motorbike in the moments before the crash.

Road Policing Sergeant Paul Hughes said: “As our investigations continue into what happened, I’m particularly keen to hear from the driver of a blue car who may have seen the motorbike pass them just before the crash.

“There were two motorcycles riding together, the Black Suzuki GSXR 600 which was involved in the collision, followed by a friend on a Blue Suzuki GSX S.

“I’d also urge anyone who saw what happened to get in touch. Drivers in the area around that time on Monday with dash cam footage, please review this and bring anything of significance to our attention.

“Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101 quoting reference 2957 of March 27, 2023.”
