A secondary school in Dumfries and Galloway has been forced to close due to “major” flooding caused a water purifier used for experiments.
Moffat Academy was closed to all year groups on Monday due to the damage from the flooding.
Dumfries and Galloway Council said a leak in the water purification machine used to make de-ionised water was discovered around 8am on Monday.
The leak had caused “significant flooding” to both floors of the building as well as damage to ICT equipment, coursework and resources.
The secondary school will remain closed on Tuesday while the nursery and primary are unaffected and two exams will run as planned tomorrow.
A spokesperson for the council said: “Progress has been made with the clean up throughout today, however water still seems to be seeping through some ceilings and under some walls between classrooms.
“We are continuing to assess and carry out checks on equipment such as fire sensors to ensure they are working correctly and have not been affected by the flood water.
“Moffat Secondary will remain closed to students tomorrow (Tuesday May 28) and parents/carers have been informed of this.
“Nursery and primary will be open as usual and S4, S5 and S6 learners who are sitting exams tomorrow will attend as planned and sit their exams.”
