A missing man checked in a bag containing £12,500 of drugs into the hotel where he was staying.
Michael Redmond, 41, handed over the hold-all of ketamine at Glasgow city centre’s Holiday Inn Express on April 28, 2025.
Glasgow Sheriff Court heard how Redmond was reported as a “missing person” to the police the previous day.
Redmond, of Ayr, South Ayrshire, was assessed as being “high risk.”
Officers received information the next day that Redmond was in the hotel. Police were told that Redmond had spent the night there.
Officers reviewed CCTV showing him checking out at 10.50am.
Prosecutor Siobhan Currie said: “Redmond handed over a hold-all bag to staff and requested they put it in the storage room to collect later.
“The storage room can only be accessed by members of staff.
“Officers searched the bag as he remained a missing person, and they wanted to see if it would provide information about his whereabouts.”
Inside the bag, officers found 500 grams of ketamine with a maximum value of £12,500.
Redmond was traced and arrested in the city centre’s Buchanan Street on April 29, 2025.
He was interviewed and gave a “no comment” reply to all questions.
Redmond pleaded guilty on Tuesday to being concerned in the supply of ketamine.
The sentence was deferred pending background reports until next month by Sheriff Patrick Hughes, who continued Redmond’s bail meantime.
