Neurosurgeon discovered dead in loch six days after going missing

Missing Cumbernauld neurosurgeon’s body discovered in Banton Loch as family informed Police Scotland

A body has been found in a North Lanarkshire loch in the search for missing neurosurgeon Michael Fitzpatrick.

The 58-year-old was reported missing from Cumbernauld at around 5pm on Sunday, November 13.

Police confirmed officers carrying out searches for Mr Fitzpatrick found a body in Banton Loch in Kilsyth on Saturday.

The family of Mr Fitzpatrick have been made aware of the discovery.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “The body of a man was found in Banton Loch, Kilsyth, around 3.35pm on Saturday, November 19.

“The body has been identified as 58-year-old Michael Fitzpatrick, who had been reported missing from Cumbernauld. His family have been informed.

“The death is not believed to be suspicious.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
