Two men were hit with glass bottles and assaulted while walking on a canal path in Clydebank.
The two 21-year-olds were near Whitecrook Street between 11.10pm and 11.30pm on December when a disturbance broke out with a large group of youths.
Glass bottles were thrown at the men while one was punched to the face and the other was punched and kicked to the face.
One received hospital treatment for his injuries.
Investigations are ongoing to identify the youths involved and officers are gathering CCTV footage.
Detective constable Georgia Callander said: “I am appealing to anyone who may have any information about this incident to get in touch. If anyone saw or noticed anything suspicious, or has any information on those involved, please do get in touch with us.
“In particular, anyone with video footage from around the area that may have captured images which could assist the investigation.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland via 101, quoting reference 3803 of December 28. Alternatively, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.”
