Car 'deliberately' set on fire in early hours prompts probe

A probe has been launched after a car was “deliberately” set on fire in the early hours of the morning in Airdrie.

Officers were alerted to the incident, involving a white Mazda 3, around 3.15am on Tuesday.

The car was situated on Drumgelloch Street at the time of the incident.

Following initial enquiries police confirmed the blaze is being treated as wilful.

The force is urging anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and said enquiries are “ongoing”.

Detective constable David Williamson said: “I am appealing to anyone who may have any information which could assist us to contact us.

“We would also be keen to speak to anyone who may have dash-cam or private CCTV footage from the area.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact 101 quoting reference 0399 of July 23, 2024.”
