Singing sensation Marti Pellow is set to return to the stage in a new edition of Scrooge The Musical next Christmas.
The show is taking over SEC Armadillo in Glasgow between December 12, 2026 and January 10, 2027 for a limited five-week run.
Former Wet Wet Wet frontman Marti, 60, says he is looking forward to taking on the role of Ebenezer Scrooge, a cold-hearted miser who discovers the true spirit of the season in the much-loved Dickens tale.
It’s been a long held dream of Marti’s to bring Scrooge to life after seeing the film when it was released in 1970 – kickstarting his love of musical theatre.
“I remember going to the pictures with my uncle James and we went to see Scrooge the musical with the wonderful Albert Finney in it. I loved the score, I loved the music and I loved the whole premise of the story, obviously.”
STV NewsMarti says he even got to know the film’s composer, Leslie Bricusse, throughout his career and asked him what his chances were.
“I was always chipping away at him saying, ‘Do you think I could do Scrooge? I’d love to do Scrooge’… And he went ‘Maybe when you’re a bit older…’ Now I am.
“Now this little boy is getting to have one of his dreams come true for Christmas. I’ve had the chance to pull it all together to do Scrooge the Musical and the first choice of venue? Glasgow.”
Marti has assured fans he will have no problem getting into the ‘Bah Humbug’ nature of the character.
“I’ll take like that like a duck to water… I’ll get to say that wonderful line: ‘I suppose you’ll be wanting Christmas Day off?'”
STV NewsBefore all things Scrooge, Marti will be back performing his hits, this time with someone rather special by his side.
“I’m going to do some touring with Billy Ocean. We’re going out on a wee combo. We’re coming to Pitlochry to the Heartland festival, which I’m really looking forward to.”
And for this Christmas? The 60-year-old will be back in Glasgow with family and friends – and he wouldn’t have it any other way.
“Some of my friends will go abroad to places like the Bahamas – good luck to you!
“I’ve spent Christmas in a hot climate before and it discombobulated me. I’m a west of Scotland boy!”
Scrooge the Musical will be at the SEC Glasgow from December 12, 2026 until January 10, 2027. Tickets range between £14 and £85 and can be purchased here.
