SNS GroupA married dad who preyed on a schoolgirl, then took her on dates in Glasgow while she was supposed to be in school, has avoided jail.
Zubair Javid, 40, preyed upon the 15-year-old between April 1 and June 14 last year.
Javid went with the girl for coffee, food and to the cinema, which he paid for, including her travel.
He kissed his victim on the lips at the end of each meeting, which he said “felt really good.”
Javid also complimented the teenager and told her that he “loved” her.
First offender Javid pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to sending written sexual communication to the girl.
He also admitted to engaging in sexual activity with her.
Sheriff Michael Hanlon told Javid at sentencing: “This was a very serious offence which involved a young girl with a significant age difference between yourself and her which continued over a long period of time.
“It is clear you should ultimately have been aware that she was underage.
“The narrative said you were meeting her when she was wearing her school uniform on occasions.
“The victim impact statement suggests it clearly has had an impact on her and understandably so.
“I want to make it clear to everyone affected by this that any shame or embarrassment is on your shoulders. It is you who is responsible.
“You are a first offender and are at a low risk of re-offending. You have expressed some degree of remorse and accept that punishment should be imposed upon you.
“Taking all of that into account, on the balance, I will take a step back from custody.”
Javid was ordered to do 150 hours of unpaid work and tagged for nine months, keeping him indoors between 7pm and 6am.
He was put under supervision and the sex offenders register for three years.
Javid was given a five-year non-harassment order which prohibits him from contacting his victim in any way. He has also been banned from contacting children under 18 without the consent of his supervising officer.
The court heard Javid met his victim when she would drop off her younger siblings at a primary school in Glasgow’s southside.
He was told by one of the teachers that the girl had attended the school when she was younger and was now in fourth year.
Javid went on to speak to the girl and asked for her phone number and social media accounts.
The teenager was “unsure” about this, but he told her that he had sent a request on Instagram.
She accepted the request from his Instagram account, and the pair went on to “get to know each other.”
The girl stated that she spoke about school while Javid told her that he had a wife and children.
They also bumped into each other in the local community, in which Javid told the teenager that she had “pretty eyes.”
The pair shared text, voice and video messages with each other, which increased in frequency as time went on.
Prosecutor Danielle McGuinness said: “The girl felt like Javid cared for her and was interested in what she had to say and what was happening in her life.
“After a period of time, Javid told her that he really liked her and suggested they go out sometime.
“She agreed as she was ‘kind of lonely’ and had no one else to go out with.”
The hearing was told that Javid took her to a park with his dog while she wore her school uniform.
Javid kissed the girl at the end of the date before the pair parted company.
This started occasional meetings between the pair, which included a train station before heading into Glasgow city centre.
Ms McGuinness added: “They would have coffee or something to eat, and on one occasion they went to the cinema.
“Javid would pay for everything, including the girl’s train fare.
“At the end of each meeting, they would kiss each other on the lips.
“On each occasion, the girl was supposed to be at school and would be wearing her uniform.”
Compliments would also be sent by text, with the girl receiving messages such as: “Good morning, I love your eyes.”
He would tell her that she made him feel special, that he was happy to be with her and that he “loved” her.
In another message, Javid asked the girl for a “saucy” picture of her.
He further described wanting the girl to be “chunky” and described having sex with her.
On June 10, 2025, the girl’s parents were informed that she did not attend school.
She was confronted by her parents, but the girl did not tell them where she had been.
Her phone was searched by her parents, which showed the messages that had been sent by Javid.
Ms McGuinness added: “She told them what had been going on and that she thought Javid was her boyfriend.”
The school was informed by the girl’s dad about what had gone on, which included showing a selfie picture of her and Javid together.
The matter was reported to the police, and the girl was questioned.
She told officers that she knew what Javid did was “wrong” but described herself as being “in denial.”
The girl further stated that she cared about Javid and seeing him again would “make me tear up.”
Ryan Sloan, defending, told the court: “At first, he asked if she was 16 and she said yes as she was 15, about to turn 16 when she spoke to him.
“The plea is tendered that when they met up, he did not have a reasonable belief she had reached the age of 16.”
