Manhunt launched after attempted murder of police officer in Dumfries hit-and-run

A manhunt has been launched after a police officer was knocked down in a hit-and-run in Dumfries during the early hours of Monday morning.

Officers were called to assist a member of the public on Herries Avenue at around 12.10am. A silver Subaru Forester car was driven at a male officer at around 1.20am.

He was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary where he remains in a stable condition.

The car was discovered abandoned near Catherine Field Road.

The driver is described as male, of slim to medium build, with dark hair cut short at the sides. He was wearing a grey top, grey trousers and trainers.

Investigators are treating the incident as attempted murder.

Detective Inspector Scott Wilson said: “Our thoughts are with the officer, his family and colleagues at this time. We will continue to offer them all the necessary support.

“This incident is being treated as attempted murder, and we will use all tools at our disposal to trace the person responsible.

“I am asking anyone who may have seen the Subaru driving around the area around that time on Monday and in the few days before the incident to get in touch.

“Similarly, anyone in the area at the time with dashcam footage should contact us.”
