Transport police have launched a manhunt after a subway security guard was punched unconscious in Glasgow.

The incident happened at the Buchanan Street underground station at around 8.30pm on Saturday, May 15.

British Transport Police said a member of the security staff at the north entrance was approached by a man and punched on the face, knocking him unconscious.

The attacker fled from the scene, leaving the victim with serious facial injuries that required hospital treatment.

The assault took place on the day thousands of Rangers fans celebrated the team’s Scottish Premiership trophy win in the city centre.

A BTP spokesperson said: “At the time of the incident the city centre and station were extremely busy with football supporters.

“Officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident.”
