A man who allegedly tried to rob a shop and then doused the premises in ammonia in a bid to set it on fire has appeared in court.
Dean Jones is alleged to have carried out the attack at a shop on Main Street in Condorrat, Cumbernauld on Monday, December 23, at around 11.20am.
The 35-year-old then attempted to set the shop on fire by throwing cleaning fluid on the floor which contained ammonia.
He was apprehended by police and charged with assault and robbery, culpable and reckless conduct and assaulting an officer.
He appeared at Airdrie Sherriff Court on Christmas Eve and made no plea.
He was committed for further examination and remanded in custody.
Jones is next due to appear in court within eight days.
