Man who 'ran from police into grounds of high school' arrested

A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident, which occurred on Thursday afternoon.

A man who allegedly ran from police into the grounds of a high school in Inverclyde has been arrested.

Police confirmed officers stopped a man on Inverkip Road in Greenock at around 12.45pm on Thursday before he fled into the grounds of Inverclyde Academy on Cumberland Road.

A 25-year-old man was then traced by officers and arrested in connection with the incident.

A notification sent to parents at around 1pm said all pupils were brought back in to the school building as per police advice due to an “incident” in the local community.

Police said there was no “threat or risk to the school or wider community”.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.45pm on Thursday, April 25, 2024, officers stopped a man in Inverkip Road, Greenock.

“He ran from police into the grounds of a high school in Cumberland Road and was subsequently traced by officers nearby.

“A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection and enquiries are ongoing.

“There was no threat or risk to the school or wider community.”
