A man who carried out a “horrific” ammonia attack on a woman leaving her scarred for life has been jailed.
Brian O’Connor targeted his victim after she had an argument over social media with his daughter.
The 54-year-old was wearing a balaclava and a gas mask when he struck at a house in Glasgow’s Carntyne on August 19, 2023.
O’Connor was convicted of assaulting the woman to her severe injury and permanent impairment last month.
He appeared via video-link from prison to be sentenced by Lord Mulholland at the High Court in Glasgow.
It emerged O’Connor had a lengthy criminal record including for violence, drugs and breaching bail.
It was his third High Court conviction.
Lord Mulholland had previously said O’Connor was responsible for a “horrific, despicable” crime.
Sentencing, he told him: “You were convicted unanimously by a jury of squirting ammonia in a woman’s face.
“This was obviously a planned attack as you were dressed in black, wearing a balaclava and a gas mask.
“She suffered permanent impairment to her left eye, which you no doubt intended given the substance squirted on her.
“What you did was wicked – to deliberately harm a woman’s eyesight, she has suffered long term consequences.
“You did this because of a Facebook fallout involving your daughter and the victim.”
O’Connor was also convicted of assaulting a man to his injury on the same date and place.
