A man will stand trial next year accused of having items to make explosive devices.

Shazad Khan faced the allegation as he appeared in the dock at the High Court in Glasgow on Monday.

The indictment claims the 51 year-old did make or have in his possession a quantity of gunpowder at a flat in the city’s Broomhill on February 15, 2024.

Prosecutors state Khan gave rise to “reasonable suspicion” that he did not have the substance for a legal purpose.

It is alleged he had the powder along with other items such as metal pipes, ball bearings, fireworks, blank ammunition, shotgun cartridges, alarm mines and commercial pyrotechnic grenades.

The accusation claims these could be used, adapted or combined to “manufacture explosive devices”.

Defence KC Gordon Jackson represented Khan at the hearing.

Khan pleaded not guilty to the charge under the Explosive Substances Act, as well as another of possessing cannabis.

Prosecutor Lorraine Glancy KC asked for a trial to be set.

Lord Armstrong fixed a trial that is scheduled to start in November 2025.
