A man threatened staff with a knife before stealing money from a shop in North Lanarkshire.

Police are appealing for information regarding the incident that took place at a premises on the Petersburn Road area of Airdrie on Thursday.

The suspect entered the shop at around 4.55pm before producing a bladed weapojn and demanding money.

He then made off with a three-figure sum towards Varnsdorf Way.

Officers investigating the incident have released a description of the suspect and asked witnesses to come forward.

The man is described as white with a medium build and was wearing a dark top with a hood and dark bottoms.

Detective Constable David Williamson said: “Our enquiries are ongoing and we are keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened or who has information that could help with our investigation.

“We are asking the public to check private CCTV and to get in touch if there is anything that could assist. If you were driving in the area please check dash-cam and contact us if there is anything helpful.”
