A man who leapt onto a railway line and began to throw stones towards waiting passengers and at station buildings has been jailed for five months.
Justin Jefferson, 31, jumped off a platform and began running up and down the track at Stirling Railway Station at around 11pm on June 25, 2024.
Members of the public and ScotRail staff tried to reason with him, but he ignored them and began to pick up stones from the track bed, hurling them at the platform where people were standing and at station buildings.
Several office windows were smashed by the projectiles, causing £800 worth of damage.
Officers arrived and British Transport Police constable Mitchell Clelland got onto the line to arrest Jefferson, but he had to be tasered twice before he could be removed safely.
Prosecutor Amy Clyne said he was taken initially to hospital and then taken into custody.
Jefferson, of Stirling, appeared by video link from prison at Stirling Sheriff Court on Wednesday, January 8, and pleaded guilty to vandalism, reckless endangerment, and resisting police.
Solicitor Lisa McGuigan, defending, said Jefferson was “sorry and remorseful” but realistic about the likely outcome of the case.
Imposing the jail term, Sheriff Mark O’Hanlon told Jefferson: “This was a serious issue, which placed a police officer in danger.”
