A man has been stabbed in the back after being approached by a gang in Inverclyde.
The 22-year-old was attacked near Carwoord Street in Greenock on Thursday evening around 9.45pm.
He was targeted by four unidentified men in dark clothing before being stabbed.
The man was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital for treatment for a puncture wound to his back.
His injuries are not life threatening.
Detective constable Anthony Hainey, of Greenock CID, said: “At 9.45pm, near to Carwood Street a 22-year-old man was stabbed with a knife or similar item.
“He was in the street when he was approached by four unidentified men in dark clothing.
“He subsequently attended A&E at Inverclyde Royal to be treated for a puncture wound to his back and was later discharged.
“His injuries are not life-threatening.
“Our enquiries are ongoing and the incident appears to be unprovoked.
