A man was slashed with a blade and a woman’s face was struck in a violent attack in Renfrew on Saturday.
The 51-year-old man and 48-year-old woman were assaulted by two men at around 5.45pm while on Ferguson Street.
The man suffered a slash to his forehead and the woman was left with severe bruising and swelling in the attack. Both had to be taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital for treatment.
The police believe the two suspects had a row with a couple at a taxi rank before the attack, after which they ran off into Robertson Park.
The first man is described as being in his early 30s, around 5ft 10in tall, stocky with short blonde hair. He was wearing a white polo shirt, tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.
The other man is described as being in his mid-20s, around 5ft 8in tall, slim with short black hair. He was wearing a grey tracksuit top and bottoms, and trainers.
Police investigating the incident captured the two men on CCTV on Hairst Street before the alleged attack. They were seen to have a verbal altercation with an unknown man and woman at the taxi rank and officers want to speak to anyone who saw this.
Detective constable Liam Rodgers, of Paisley CID, said: “This was a frightening experience for the two people involved and we are keen to trace the men responsible as soon as possible.
“We are aware that the men were involved in a verbal altercation with a couple at a taxi rank prior to the incident on Hairst Street and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen this.
“Likewise, anyone who was on Ferguson Street at the time of the assault and has not yet spoken to police please contact us.
“Finally I would appeal to anyone with any further information or who may recognise the description of the two men to call officers as soon as you can.”
Anyone with information can contact police on 101, quoting incident number 2949 of June 5.
