A man followed a woman in the early hours of the morning before sexually assaulting her.
Alexandre Cubilier, 36, attacked the 20-year-old in Glasgow’s Kelvinbridge on December 13, 2019.
Cubilier followed her movements from Great Western Road to nearby Napierhall Street before grabbing the victim.
The woman was able to overpower him and fled the scene.
Cubilier, from Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to sexual assault.
On Wednesday, the court heard the woman had left friends and was walking alone at 12.45am.
She became aware that Cubilier was walking closely behind her.
The woman felt uncomfortable, quickened her pace and changed direction to make sure she was not being tracked.
Prosecutor Derek Buchanan said: “Cubilier then put his arms round the back of her and pulled her into him.
“He brought his face against her and tried to kiss her twice.”
Cubilier went on to grope the woman’s breasts before she pushed him away and ran off.
Police later traced Cubilier following a CCTV appeal to members of the public.
Gerry Devanney, defending, told the court Cubilier continues to have the support of his wife and family.
The lawyer added: “This has been a significant lesson for him and that’s not been lost on him and his family.”
Sheriff Gerard Bonnar ordered Cubilier to undertake 225 hours of unpaid work.
He was also placed under supervision and added to the Sex Offenders’ Register for three years.
The sheriff said: “This was a brief incident but it’s clear it would have been frightening for the victim and the custody threshold had been met for this matter.”
