A man has been rescued by firefighters after the car he was travelling in left the road and crashed onto a beach in Inverclyde.
Emergency services were called to the scene on the Cloch Road in Gourock after 7.45am on Wednesday following reports of a car having left the road and crashing onto the beachfront.
A man was extracted from the car by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley by ambulance crews.
Coastguard crews from neighbouring Greenock, Helensburgh and Largs were sent to the scene near McInroy’s Point Ferry Terminal, as well as an RNLI lifeboat.
An HM Coastguard spokesperson said: “HM Coastguard responded to a report of a car that went off the road and onto the beach near McInroy’s Point Ferry Terminal at Gourock on June 5.
“The alarm was raised at about 8.15am and Coastguard Rescue Teams were sent from Greenock, Helensburgh and Largs.
“The RNLI’s inshore lifeboat from Helensburgh was also sent to support.
“The man was extracted from the car by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
“Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service were also alerted.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 7.46am on Wednesday, June 5, to reports of a two-vehicle road traffic collision on Cloch Road in Gourock, where one vehicle had left the road and was located on the beach.
“Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the scene and one casualty was passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.
“Crews left the scene around 9.20am after ensuring the area was made safe.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 7.45am on Wednesday, June 5, to a report of a one car crash on Cloch road in Gourock.
“Emergency services attended and the driver was checked over by the ambulance service.”
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 7.44am to attend a road traffic collision on Cloch Road, Gourock.
“We dispatched one ambulance to the scene and one patient was transported to Royal Alexandra Hospital, Paisley.”
