Man rescued and taken to hospital after falling down gully in Hamilton

A man was rescued and taken to hospital after falling down a gully in Hamilton.

A large emergency service response was called to concern for a person within a wooded area on Silvertonhill Avenue at around 5.45am on Tuesday.

The man was recovered from a gully and taken to Wishaw General Hospital for treatment.

Emergency crews left the scene after ensuring it was safe.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.45am on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, we received a report of concern for a person in a wooded area near Silvertonhill Avenue in Hamilton.

“Emergency services attended and the man had fallen down a gully.

“He was recovered and taken to hospital for treatment.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 6.22am on Tuesday to attend an incident on Silvertonhill Avenue in Hamilton.

“We dispatched one rapid response unit, our special operations team, one ambulance and a critical care paramedic to the scene. We transported one patient to Wishaw General Hospital.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 6.18am on Tuesday, August 4 to reports of a person in difficulty within a wooded area at Silvertonhill Avenue, Hamilton.

“Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances, one height vehicle and specialist resources to the area.

“Firefighters assisted emergency service partners to place a person in a position of safety who was then assessed by the Scottish Ambulance Service.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
