A man has been seriously assaulted following an attack involving a gang of youths on a beach in Ayrshire.
Police were called around 5pm on Thursday to a disturbance involving a group of youths near the car park area at Irvine beach.
A 23-year-old man was taken to University Hospital Crosshouse and later released following treatment.
Enquiries are now ongoing to establish the full circumstances and officers are appealing for anyone who saw what happened or who has dash-cam footage of the area at the time to contact police.
Detective Constable Lorna Kerr said: “The beach has been very busy this week and I would ask any witnesses who were in the area at the time, or anyone with information about the incident, to please get in touch.”
