A man has been arrested and released without charge in connection with the theft of a £490,000 trophy from a Glasgow museum.
The Lipton Cup was taken from its display cabinet at the Riverside Museum between 5pm on October 22, 2025 and 10am on October 23, 2025.
Created by Tiffany and Co., the 18-karat gold trophy was presented to Sir Thomas Lipton in New York in December 1930.
The Glaswegian businessman received the cup after his fifth and final attempt at winning the America’s Cup in yacht racing.
It was gifted to the people of Glasgow following his death in 1931.
Glasgow LifePolice confirmed a 71-year-old man was arrested in connection with the theft, but has since been released without charge.
The cup has been circulated as a stolen artefact via Interpol and other stolen property registers.
It is described as gold, with two handles and a detachable domed lid, and is set upon a silver square plinth base.
The trophy also has an enamelled red, white and blue shield and gold ropework.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Anyone with any information, no matter how small it may seem, and has yet to contact police, is urged to come forward.
“Information can be given by calling 101 and quoting reference number 0993 of Thursday, October 23, 2025, or you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
