A man riding a mobility scooter has been killed following a crash involving two cars in Paisley.

Police were called to Gauze Street, at the junction with Silk Street, after the collision involving a red Volkswagen Golf and a red Vauxhall Astra at around 8pm on Monday.

Following the collision, the 88-year-old man on the mobility scooter was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

There were no reports of any other injuries.

The road was shut for seven hours following the crash but has since reopened.

Sergeant Robert Mackie said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died at what is a very difficult time.

“Our enquiries are ongoing, and I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have witnessed the crash or who may have information which could assist us to get in touch.

“I am also keen to speak to anyone who may have dash-cam footage which could assist us.”
