A man left his brother blinded in one eye during a murder bid in his own home.

Patrick McGrow, 35, repeatedly struck the victim with a knife at his home in Barlanark, Glasgow, on January 13 last year.

The siblings had both ended up at hospital separately later that evening.

It was there that McGrow was overheard speaking about a row and how he was going to “finish him off”.

McGrow – also known as David – had denied the attempted murder during a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

He had claimed to have been acting in self-defence.

But, he was found guilty of the charge and faces a lengthy jail term when he returns to the dock in July.

The victim did not give evidence at the trial.

It was agreed between the prosecution and the defence that he lost the sight in his left eye and also suffered a neck injury following the attack.

Jurors heard from a nurse who dealt with the brothers at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary, but mainly McGrow.

He was described as “becoming quite irate” by loudly shouting and swearing.

McGrow asked about the man at one stage, further asking: “So, he is alive then?”

His sister eventually agreed to see him in hospital.

The nurse heard the pair chatting and McGrow stating how he had “got into a fight”.

The medical witness told the trial: “He then had mentioned that was not the end of the situation… that he was going to finish him off and he had carved ‘you’re dead’ into his door.”

In his closing speech, prosecutor Callum Hiller suggested to jurors that these remarks may appear to suggest McGrow “wanted his brother dead”.

After the verdict, Mr Hiller revealed the thug had nine previous convictions, including for violence and drugs.

Judge Tom Hughes continued his remand in custody as sentencing was deferred for reports.
