A driver who crashed into a top-of-the-range Audi and then smashed it with a hammer has been jailed for 15 months.
Mark Hardie, 34, pursued Lewis Flynn in Glasgow’s Govan area last September.
Mr Flynn’s Audi Q3 was struck onto the other side of the road by Hardie, who then got out and took a hammer to the motor.
On Friday, Hardie pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to dangerous driving and acting in a threatening or abusive manner towards Mr Flynn by smashing his car window with a hammer.
The court heard Mr Flynn was spotted outside a bank by Hardie’s partner, who is a trainee nurse.
She informed Hardie who began a “pursuit” of Mr Flynn in the city’s Govan Road.
Prosecutor Mark Allan said: “Hardie used his own Audi to strike the side of Mr Flynn’s vehicle.
“This caused damage to the vehicle and caused it to end up on the opposite carriageway to the danger of other road users.”
Hardie, formerly of Ayrshire, got out his car armed with a hammer and struck Mr Flynn’s vehicle before driving away.
Defending, lawyer Paul Kavanagh told the court that the pair had bad blood between them.
Sentence was deferred until next month by Sheriff Lindsay Wood for background reports.
Sheriff Wood told Hardie: “This was unacceptable behaviour in the middle of the day on a busy road, putting other road users at risk.”
Sheriff Wood disqualified the dad-of-two from driving for four years and he will be required to resit his test.
