A man is in a serious condition in hospital after he was knocked down while walking his dog in Hamilton.
Emergency services were called to the A723 Quarry Street, near the junction with Avon Street, after reports of a pedestrian being struck by a black Audi A4 at around 8.20pm on Wednesday evening.
The 66-year-old was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where he remains in a serious condition. The dog was taken to a local vet for a check-up.
The road was closed for a period of time to allow enquiries to be carried out.
Sergeant Ross Allison said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this crash.
“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed what happened to please contact us with any information.
“In addition, anyone with CCTV or dash-cam footage is asked to get in touch as this may assist in our enquiries.”
