A man has appeared in court charged with serious assault, attacking two police officers and wilful fireraising at a caravan park in Dumfries and Galloway.

Emergency services were called to Whitecairn Caravan Park in Glenluce at around 1.30am on Wednesday morning following reports of a disturbance.

A 35-year-old man was found seriously injured and taken to Galloway Community Hospital for treatment. He has been transferred to the Dumfries and Galloway General Hospital. 

Dean Sanders, from Carlisle, appeared at Stranraer Sheriff Court on Thursday and faced a total of eight charges.

These included assault to severe injury, vandalism, two counts of threatening officers, breach of the peace, wilful fireraising, behaving in a threatening and abusive manner and failing to provide a sample when asked.

The 38-year-old made no plea and was remanded in custody.

He is due to reappear in court within the next eight days.
