A man from North Lanarkshire has been commended after he saved two children from a burning car.
John Mackie, from Moodiesburn, was honoured with a Civic Recognition of Appreciation.
The award was in recognition of his decisive intervention that prevented a tragedy.
A couple of years ago, while driving with his wife in Glenboig, he stopped after a Land Rover suffered a sudden loss of power and began filling with smoke.
The Land Rover’s central locking system stopped the doors from opening, so John used a golf club from his own car to smash a window and free Kodi, aged four, and Brian, aged 11-months-old.
He did this just moments before the vehicle was engulfed in flames.
His actions were praised as “lifesaving” as he was honoured by North Lanarkshire Provost Kenneth Duffy and Councillor John McLaren.
He was also recognised alongside Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Group Commander Paul Mathieson.
