Man 'forced woman to dangle from window ledge after holding her hostage'

A man accused of forcing a woman to dangle from a window ledge after he allegedly held her hostage has been told he cannot defend himself at his trial.

Michael Glancy faces a charge of abduction, assault and attempted murder following an incident said to have occurred at a flat in Port Glasgow, Inverclyde, on August 6, 2025.

Prosecutors claim the 42-year-old kicked the door of the property and forced his way in.

He allegedly ordered the woman not to leave.

It is stated she managed to get out to the landing, but Glancy is accused of dragging her back in and holding her against her will.

Among other claims are that he threatened to murder her, tried to choke her with wire, kicked her as well as removed keys, a bus pass and a card from her pocket.

It is alleged the woman tried to escape by climbing out a living room window.

The indictment states she ended up hanging from a ledge by one hand.

Prosecutors claim the woman was left physically hurt by what allegedly occurred.

Glancy faces a separate accusation of obstructing and struggling with police on the same date at the flat.

He appeared in the dock at the High Court in Glasgow.

Glancy, who denies the accusations, had no lawyer representing him.

This was also the case at previous hearings.

Lord Scott told him he had granted a “vulnerable witness application” for the woman for when she testifies at a trial.

This means Glancy is now barred from conducting his own defence and questioning the witness himself.

As a result, the judge said the court will appoint lawyers to act for Glancy.

The case was adjourned until November for him to meet with them.

A trial has been fixed and is due to start in March 2027.
