A man is fighting for his life and a dog has died after a three-vehicle crash in Dumfries and Galloway.

The collision, involving a white Scania R580 HGV, a Claas 420 Arion tractor with a trailer and a grey Toyota Rav 4 car, happened on Wednesday around 6.30pm in Dunragit.

Police confirmed that the driver of the Toyota, a 26-year-old man, was airlifted to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with life-threatening injuries.

There were four dogs in the Toyota, one of which died at the scene while the others were checked by a vet and taken to kennels.

The driver of the Scania, a 39-year-old man, was taken to Galloway Community Hospital as a precaution and later released.

The driver of the tractor, a 20-year-old man, was not injured.

The road was closed for almost 12 hours to allow for investigations before reopening at 6.20am on Thursday.

Police Scotland is urging anyone with information regarding the crash to come forward.

Sergeant Neil Moffat said: “Our enquiries are ongoing and we are appealing for anyone who can help to get in touch.

“If you were in the area at the time and have information, including dash-cam, that could assist with our investigation then please make contact with us.

“Anyone who can help is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3306 of July 31, 2024.”
