A man fighting for his life is among a number of people injured after a double-decker bus crashed into a bridge in Glasgow.
Police officers confirmed seven people attended hospital after emergency services responded to the crash in Cook Street near the city’s O2 Academy.
A 60-year-old man was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with serious injuries and remains in a critical condition.
Five men and one woman among the 11 passengers on the bus were also taken to hospital for treatment to minor injuries and have since been discharged.
The men are aged 30, 32, 33, 33 and 41 and the woman is 52 years old.
A further four people were assessed at the scene and have no further injuries, while the driver was said to be uninjured.
Ten people – including a child – were taken to hospital after a bus crashed into the same bridge and had its roof torn off in May 2023.
The alarm was raised after 6.10pm on Saturday. Fire crews, Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service all attended the scene.
First Bus confirmed “numerous injuries” reported on its 4A service.
Cook Street at Centre Street, Commerce Street, Wallace Street and Salkeld Street reopened in the early hours of Sunday morning.
A Police Scotland statement read: “Roads in Glasgow have reopened after a bus crashed into a bridge on Cook Street.
“The incident happened around 5.55pm on Saturday, December 14, 2024 and there were 11 passengers on the bus.
“Emergency services attended and one man, aged 60, was seriously injured. He remains in a critical condition in Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
“One woman, aged 52, and five men, aged 30, 32, 33, 33 and 41 were taken by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment to minor injuries.
“They have since been discharged. Four others were checked at the scene and have no reported injuries.
“The driver was not injured.
“All roads reopened around 12.30am on Sunday. Enquiries remain ongoing.”
A spokesperson for First Bus said: “I can confirm that one of our 4A service buses in Glasgow was involved in a bridge strike incident on December 14 around 6pm, in which a double decker bus hit a railway bridge on Cook Street.
“We’re aware that ten people were injured, with five people being taken to hospital in an ambulance. We have launched an immediate investigation and are also assisting Police Scotland with their enquiries.
“The road was cleared and re-opened shortly after 12.30am this morning.
“Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this incident.”
ScotRail confirmed trains on multiple lines including to Gourock, Ayr and Largs were cancelled after the incident.
The Scottish Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.
