A man has died following a disturbance which involved “a number of people” in Rutherglen.

Police were called at around 7pm on Tuesday evening to Farmeloan Road in Rutherglen.

Emergency services attended and a 38-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The death is being treated as suspicious and police said that enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.

Forensic teams are now in the area as part of the investigation.

A 39-year-old man was charged in connection with possessing an offensive weapon and is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday, October 26.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Enquiries have so far revealed that a number of people were involved in this incident and anyone with any information is encouraged to come forward.

“Closures are in place on Farmeloan Road and Victoria Street. Drivers are urged to use an alternative route.”
