A man has died and a lorry driver has been taken to hospital following a crash in Dumfries and Galloway.

Officers were alerted to the two-vehicle crash that happened at around 1.15am on Friday on the A75 near to Springholm, Castle Douglas.

The incident involved a silver Ford Mondeo and white Scania HGV.

Police confirmed that the driver of the Mondeo, a 32-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Scania HGV, a 57-year-old man was taken to Galloway Royal Infirmary as a “precaution”.

The road is currently closed to allow for investigations to take place and is expected to remain closed until Friday evening.

The force is urging anyone with information regarding the crash to come forward.

Sergeant Chris McColm said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died at this very difficult time.

“We are appealing to anyone who may have seen what happened to get in touch. Likewise, if you have dash-cam footage that could assist with our investigation then make contact with officers.

“Anyone who can help is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0209 of September 20.”
