Man dies after taking unwell and crashing in rush hour traffic

Man dies after falling unwell while driving in rush hour crash near M74 at Raith Interchange Traffic Scotland

A man has died following a single-vehicle crash in rush hour traffic near the M74.

Police were called to the scene at around 7.50am on Wednesday morning, at the Raith Interchange.

The crash occurred after a driver apparently took unwell at the Interchange.

The 51-year-old man was taken to Hairmyers Hospital, but was pronounced dead a short time later.

Traffic Scotland reported the closure of the A725’s southbound carriageway as a result, later reopening at around 9am.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a crash involving a single vehicle after a driver apparently took unwell at the Raith Interchange around 7.50am on Wednesday, December 7.

“The 51-year-old man was taken to Hairmyres Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.

“His next of kin has been made aware and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
