A man has died after a fire at a second floor flat in Glasgow.

Firefighters tackled the blaze in Parnie Street, in the Trongate area, shortly after 1.30am on Friday.

A man was removed from the building but was pronounced dead at the scene.

Roddie Keith, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service local senior officer, said: “We were alerted at 1.35am on Friday, December 27, to reports of a dwelling fire on Parnie Street, Glasgow.

"Three fire appliances and one aerial appliance were mobilised to the scene, where crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished a fire that had taken hold within a second floor flat.

"Firefighters located and removed one man from inside the property, who was treated at the scene by our crews and ambulance staff, however sadly he was pronounced dead at the scene.

"A joint fire investigation alongside our Police Scotland colleagues is now under way."

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland added: "We were called around 1.40am on Friday, December 27, to a report of a fire at a flat on Parnie Street, Glasgow.

"One man was removed from the building and treated by ambulance staff but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of the fire."
