A man has died, and a woman is in hospital following a two-vehicle crash on a road in East Ayrshire.

Emergency services were called to the A713 near Boneston Bridge at around 6.25pm after reports of a collision between involving a blue Toyota Yaris and a red Renault Kangoo.

The passenger in the Toyota, a 78-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family is aware.

The driver of the car, a 77-year-old woman, was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.

There are no other reported injuries.

The road was closed to allow for crash investigation work, and it reopened around 4am on Friday.

Sergeant Scott Gourlay said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died at this difficult time.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the crash and I would ask anyone who witnessed what happened, or who was travelling in the area at the time and may have dash-cam footage, to contact us.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2932 of 2 April, 2026.”
