Man dead and another injured after stabbing near community centre

Emergency services were called to the Burnbank Centre in Hamilton at around 3.50pm following reports of two men injured.

A man has died, and another has been taken to hospital after a stabbing near a community centre in South Lanarkshire.

Emergency services were called to the Burnbank Centre in Hamilton at around 3.50pm on October 21 following reports of two men injured.

Paramedics pronounced a 36-year-old man dead at the scene. A 59-year-old man was taken to hospital, and his condition is not known.

There are some closures in place on Whitehill Road and Purdie Street until after midday on Tuesday, October 21.

An investigation has been launched into the circumstances of the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3.50pm on Monday, October 21, 2024, we received a report of two men injured within the Burnbank Centre, Hamilton.

“Emergency services attended, and a 36-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“A 59-year-old man was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances of the incident.” 

A spokesperson for South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture said: “We will do all we can to help police with their enquiries, but it would be inappropriate to comment further on an ongoing police investigation.”
